In places like kitchens, where open fires and liquids can easily mix, fire blankets are an excellent fire-fighting choise. Water extinguishers will almost always escalate the problem rather than solving it, and even though other extinguisher types can be effective, they are much harder to use and do not work as quickly.

Look after yourself first
When used correctly, fire blankets can be very good at stopping a fire that is just starting. If you feel confident tackling the flame, you can use the fire blanket to do so, but always make sure that your escape route is clear. If the fire looks too big for you, get out.
Fire blankets can be used by anyone without training, but no one should feel obligated to do so. Your safety is always more important.
